increasingly important, as <strong>software products are often the backbone of companies today<\/strong>. Only by <strong>adding effective security checks and tests<\/strong> to the development process can vulnerabilities be identified and addressed early, reducing the risk of security breaches. The best way to do this is to consider the risks and impacts.<\/p>\n<p>Here are just a few examples of cybercrime cases in Germany with the amounts of damage quantified in the reports:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2023: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inside-it.ch\/ransomware-bande-lockbit-greift-logistik-dienstleister-von-zalando-an-20230316\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ransomware gang Lockbit attacks logistics service provider of Zalando<\/a><\/strong>, here over 250 gigabytes of data records are said to have been stolen.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>January 2021<\/strong>, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zeit.de\/digital\/datenschutz\/2021-01\/dr-willmar-schwabe-pharmaunternehmen-hackerangriff-datenklau-schaden-millionen-euro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pharmaceutical company Dr. Willmar Schwabe was the victim of a hacker attack<\/a><\/strong>. In the process, data was stolen and damage amounting to <strong>several million euros<\/strong> was incurred.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>December 2020<\/strong>, the German <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heise.de\/news\/Ransomware-Angriff-Software-AG-will-im-Dezember-2020-gezielt-attackiert-worden-sein-4906435.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">software manufacturer Software AG was the target of a ransomware attack<\/a><\/strong>. The damage was estimated at <strong>around 80 million euros.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In <strong>September 2020<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heise.de\/news\/Notebooksbilliger-de-Datenleck-wie-geplant-handelte-kein-Angreifer-4947829.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online retailer notebooksbilliger.de became the target of a hacker attack.<\/a> In the process, customer and employee data was stolen, resulting in damage of <strong>around 1.2 million euros.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>In 2019<\/strong>, the company Citycomp was the victim of a hacking attack in which about 50 terabytes of data were stolen. The damage was <strong>estimated at 50 million euros<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the same year, <a href=\"https:\/\/unternehmen-cybersicherheit.de\/automobilzulieferer-gedia-kaempft-mit-schwerer-cyberattacke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>automotive supplier Gedia<\/strong> suffered <strong>damages of around 10 million euros<\/strong><\/a> from a ransomware attack.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In 2018<\/strong>, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spiegel.de\/netzwelt\/web\/bsi-warnt-trojaner-emotet-richtet-schaeden-in-millionenhoehe-an-a-1242225.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI)<\/a><\/strong> warned companies against becoming the target of an attack by the Emotet Trojan. The damage was estimated at several million euros.<\/li>\n<li>In 2016, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deutschlandfunk.de\/hackerangriff-bei-telekom-sicherheitsluecke-war-bereits-100.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deutsche Telekom was crippled by a DDoS attack<\/a><\/strong> that caused massive disruptions to the network. The damage was estimated at several million euros.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It should also be noted that many cases of cybercrime are not even reported or the damage is not publicly disclosed, so the cases mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg.<\/p>\n<div class=\"group w-full text-gray-800 dark:text-gray-100 border-b border-black\/10 dark:border-gray-900\/50 bg-gray-50 dark:bg-&#091;#444654&#093;\">\n<div class=\"text-base gap-4 md:gap-6 md:max-w-2xl lg:max-w-xl xl:max-w-3xl p-4 md:py-6 flex lg:px-0 m-auto\">\n<div class=\"relative flex w-&#091;calc(100%-50px)&#093; flex-col gap-1 md:gap-3 lg:w-&#091;calc(100%-115px)&#093;\">\n<div class=\"flex justify-between lg:block\">\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Avoidable_risks_through_proven_countermeasures\"><\/span>Avoidable risks through proven countermeasures<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div>There are various approaches to this, such as the use of <strong>security-by-design principles<\/strong> and <strong>penetration tests in the development proces<\/strong>s, the <strong>implementation of security guidelines<\/strong> and <strong>IT risk awareness training for employees<\/strong>, and the continuous monitoring and updating of software systems by means of <strong>IT security monitorin<\/strong>g.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>IT security must also not be neglected when <strong>implementing agile methods<\/strong> and <strong>DevOps processes<\/strong>. It is enormously important that security is included in the planning and implementation from the very beginning in order to identify and eliminate possible weak points at an early stage. For example, <strong>IT security experts can be deployed in the agile team<\/strong> or s<strong>ecurity checks can be performed as part of the continuous delivery process<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, <strong>IT security must be seen as an integral part of the software product lifecycle<\/strong> and ensure that all people and processes involved understand the importance of security and act accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>The Continuous Delivery\/Deployment Pipeline is a process where software is continuously tested, integrated and automatically deployed. The <strong>agile development process is an iterative approach<\/strong> where teams work in short agile cycles and regularly adapt to meet the needs of the customer.<\/p>\n<p>The DevOps process refers to collaboration between development and operations teams to accelerate and automate software development and deployment. An iterative development process with directly connected deployment and delivery is a proven approach in which a product &#8211; analogous to prototyping &#8211; is developed and tested in short cycles, with feedback being obtained and implemented on a regular basis.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Strategies_for_agile_team_transformation\"><\/span>Strategies for agile team transformation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of the first challenges is to create <strong>awareness of the importance of testing and quality in all phases<\/strong> of the <strong>software delivery process<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A key approach here is to meet employees where they are by making them aware of their needs and their specific challenges and offering them guidance.
